Terry Scholten
Lead pastor
I love being part of Alive, and am privileged to be the lead pastor and teacher since 2011. Before coming to Alive, I helped lead congregations in Jenison, Hudsonville, Illinois, Indiana, and Grand Rapids in the areas of Student Ministries, Spiritual Formation, and Pastoral Care. I graduated from Calvin Seminary, Western Seminary, and Dordt College.
My wife, Sheryl, and I have two children who are both married. We have 5 wonderful grandsons, and love spending time together. My passions are dad jokes and coffee that is dark and bitter, and I love cooking and grilling, reading historical non-fiction books, and all things landscaping — design, lawn care, and outdoor projects. We love to walk, hike, and be outside as much as we can. A while back we added a patio in our front yard so we could visit with our neighbors as much as possible.
Someday I would like to write a book. I have sent in two drafts, but no bites yet. A trip to Italy is on my bucket list. And believe it or not, in the 70's I actually won a live dance contest doing the robot to the 5th of Beethoven. Who knew?
I love teaching and studying the Word every week, and would love nothing more than to know you. Stop in some time and say 'hi'. The coffee is always on.
Kerri Clark
Worship director
I have the privilege of planning our worship services and helping lead the congregation into worship with an amazing group of volunteers. I have my Bachelor's in Worship Arts Leadership from Spring Arbor University. My husband, Aaron, and I have two children: Chase and Chelsea who both enjoy music and the arts. We both love spending time together as a family outdoors (especially in the summer), or playing games at home.
Kyle VanDenHeuvel
Production Team Leader
I have the privilege of taking care of our production technology and helping out our tech team volunteers. As a team, we get to facilitate front-of-house sound and tech for worship, as well as providing the livestream service for our online members. I have a Bachelor's in Computer Science from Grand Valley and have a love for all things tech related.
In my free time I enjoy playing guitar and bass, listening to music, skiing, and spending time with family and friends.
Emily Garcia
Communications Coordinator
I am the Communications Coordinator at Alive. That means that I am in charge of all things visual and communication—whether it's inside the church, outside the church, or online. I have my Bachelor's in Graphic Design from Grand Valley, and have worked with many churches and Christian non-profits. I specialize in branding and identity, and have an obsession with anything type.
I'm married to my best friend and the love of my life, Michael, and we have a house on a couple acres in the country, where we are always working on gardening and home projects. When I’m not at Alive, I’m working at my ceramics business, horseback riding, or just making something.
Jana Stob
Business Manager
I am the Business Manager for Alive Ministries. In this position I handle all administrative tasks for the staff and campus. My husband, Jeff, and I are parents to two grown sons. My hobbies are reading, watching HGTV, and enjoying the outdoors during Michigan summers.
Brian Boucek
Director of Youth and Adult Discipleship
I have the joy of leading the student ministry and discipleship programs at Alive. I love showing people God's love for them, and I get really excited about helping young people discover the gifts and purpose that God has given them. I grew up in Rockford, Illinois and studied theology and ministry at Trinity Christian College before moving to Michigan in 2010.
My wife, Katie, and I have two children in elementary school, and our family loves gaming and legos. Some of my other favorite things are movies, dad-jokes, and all things nerdy (like Star Wars, comics, and Lord of the Rings).
Aubrey vanwylen
Kids alive Leader
I have the joy of partnering with our fabulous teachers to lead some of our youngest members of Alive to a closer relationship with their Lord and Savior.
My husband Scott and I have 3 daughters, Hallie, Lyla, and Jayda. We love spending time outside, camping, riding bikes, and playing soccer. I also love drinking coffee, winter and winter sports, and reading.
Vicki Van zalen
Kids Alive Leader
As the Co-Leader of Kids Alive, I get to work with a great team of volunteers who love our children, and teach them the love God has for each of them.
My Husband Paul and I have four grown children, two of whom are married. As a family, we love spending summer days going for boat rides and hanging out at the beach.
Justine Clement
Nursery Leader
As the nursery leader, I have the privilege of working with the youngest and most adorable members of Alive! I coordinate volunteers and make sure our littlest ones are loved and cared for during the service.
My husband, Tyce, and I have two boys, Koven and Laketon. Some of my favorite things are time at the lake with my family, boating, and reading. We love being outside! We take lots of walks and play lots of baseball and basketball.
Jill Scholma
Building Custodian
I have the privilege to clean up after everybody, from services to kids having fun at 263. I enjoy being on the Journey with Alive! I love the people and I love the coffee!
In my free time I enjoy working in my frame shop. In the spring, I help coach softball at Unity Christian. My husband, Randy, and I have 3 grown children, two of whom are married. As a family, we enjoy camping, fishing and going to sporting events.
Council
As a member of Alive, you are part of a council family group! This means that you have an elder and deacon team (assigned based on your last name) that will pray and care for you, as well as help you with physical and practical needs that arise. Please feel free to get to know these wonderful caring leaders, and contact them when you need help with spiritual, emotional or physical needs.
The council meets the second Wednesday of every month, 6:30 pm at Alive in Jenison. Council meetings are open to all.
Board
Alive's Board is tasked with setting the ministry free by directing its finances, facilities, human resources, safety, tech, and administration. These administrative functions, in collaboration with the Council and the Staff, help the Elders and Deacons focus primarily on missional worship, engaging discipleship, and pastoral care.
